they are the first provider of third-party OPC
server connectivity to release support for Symbolic
Variable memory access for GE PACSystems controllers.

Maine; Kepware Technologies announces the latest
release of their KEPServerEX OPC server suite
which includes updates to the GE Ethernet driver
to support GE PACSystems RX3i and RX7i controllers,
with support for Symbolic Variables.
Programmable Automation Controllers (PACs)
are powerful hybrid controllers which combine
the custom code features of PC-based control
systems, a standardized interface, and more
control features than a typical PLC. Traditional
memory areas of the PAC devices can be accessed
with standard reference variables. A reference
variable is mapped to a specific I/O or internal
register location in the controller. Complete
access to PAC memory (and custom programs)
requires the support of Symbolic Variable memory.
Symbolic Variables are not mapped to a specific
register, instead the controller allocates
memory for Symbolic Variables as needed from
its managed memory area . Now with the GE Ethernet
driver for KEPServerEX there's the ability
to read and write Symbolic Variables to and
from the controller. In addition, to optimize
performance the Kepware driver reads blocks
and performs multi-item writes to Symbolic
Variable memory.
For customers who've standardized on KEPServerEX,
the single OPC server with plug-in device driver
architecture means they can seamlessly incorporate
full GE PACSystems connectivity into their existing
KEPServerEX applications. Additionally, existing
customers who own a license for the GE driver suite
in KEPServerEX will have free access to PACSystem
support simply by installing the latest release.
